DS14DFL The DS14DFLPC 14.4 Volt Driver Drill features a 1.5Ah battery that can be charged and recharged 1500 times before it needs to be replaced, makes the overall weight of the drill significantly lighter and can also power Hitachi's other 14.4V cordless tools (DMR, DVF3 and DL series) for more flexibility and value across the cordless line. The DS14DFLPC is ideal for drilling into wood, plastic, mild steel and aluminum. This battery makes the overall weight of the drill significantly lighter than other models (over 40 percent), and it's uniquely interchangeable with other Hitachi drills for even more flexibility and value.
The two-piece magnet motor delivers 274 in/lbs of torque to power through even the toughest jobs with ease. The DS14DFL comes with two 1.5Ah batteries that last approximately three times longer than NiMH or NiCd batteries, meaning you don?t have to replace the batteries as often -- which will save you money. Hitachi?s lithium ion batteries maintain a steady charge from the moment the trigger is pulled until it?s time to recharge. For the full duration of the charge, you'll enjoy maximum performance.
The 2-speed transmission is controlled by a one-touch speed shift knob that lets you select between 0-400 or 0-1,200 RPMs. The DS14DFL is one of the most compact and lightweight cordless drills in its class, measuring just over 8-1/2 inches and weighing only 3-1/2 pounds. The new battery technology reduces the weight by approximately a pound, which lessens user fatigue and improves maneuverability in tight or overhead applications.
The 3/8-inch keyless chuck allows for quick and easy bit changes, and a 22-stage clutch is incorporated for high torque and precision driving applications. I have had a Makita 9.6v for years. Excellent drill but nicad batteries were the weak spot. As a home owner, I only use it occasionally and of course want it ready to go when needed. Nicads are miserable in this aspect. LithiumIon will hold a charge for much longer and their useful life is much longer. Makita and others are very pricey compared to Hitachi (for my needs). Hitachi gets deeply discounted several times a year where others are not. If you wait and watch for the sales you can get a great deal. This drill feels good in the hand, size, balance and weight. Plenty of torque for all a 3/8 drill is meant to do. With two batteries, I'd be hard pressed to ever run out of juice. I imagine a professional with heavy duty needs would want a drill meant for that kind of use with bigger/heavier batteries. Oh, it has a 5 year warranty too!
