Customer Review: Hitachi C10FL Tablesaw needs improvement

The dado inserts on this saw are one of my gripes. They are thin steel, and bend easily. Because the inserts are not 1/2" thick like most woodworking saws, you can't build sturdy zero-clearance inserts from mdf. The steel insert is more like 1/8" thick.
Also I had to question the general build quality of this Hitachi saw. The metal stand looks impressive at first, but the steel is thin gauge and flexes when you roll the saw around. Mine bent in two places and needed to be replaced ([...]). Both the height adjust and blade angle handles broke. The dust collection baffle under the saw must be removed if you are not using a dust collector because sawdust accumulates there.
The "micro adjust" fence is a joke. It's just a couple thumb rollers to slide the fence back and forth, and it doesn't work.
On the positive side it has a nice cast iron top, although it uses stamped steel wings that were not level with the top. It uses a top mounted bevel scale gauge which is adjustable and easy to read. The scale on the fence is hard to adjust, and harder to read clearly. The fence locking mechanism is secure with a good positive lock.
The casters are nice to roll on very smooth surfaces. They only elevate the legs 1/8" off the ground, so it is only good for smooth shop floors.
The arbor lock makes one-wrench blade changes easy. The arbor bolt is not long enough to accomodate a 3/4" dado with the flange washer. Hitachi reccommends installing wide dados without the washer. I wondered why they didn't make the arbor bolt 1/2" longer.
The motor is whisper-quiet, smooth, and powerful enough for most tasks. I think this would be on okay saw for general construction and a big upgrade from a low-end Craftsman tablesaw. However it doesn't compare to the Jet and similar brands for fine woodworking. I also found it interesting that this is the exact same saw as the Porter Cable at Lowes, just branded differently. That always makes me nervous when I see the exact product with different stickers on it. Reminds me that Hitachi had nothing to do with the engineering behind this saw. They just slapped their stickers on it.
