Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bare-Tool Hitachi CR18DLP4 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only, No Battery)Customer Review: Hitachi 18V "POST TYPE" Li-Ion Reciprocating SAW-Powerhouse! Summary: 5 Stars
After running the gamut of cordless tool usages for 30 years, I've Finally Arrived! I've used and owned 3.6, 7.2, 12, 14.4, 15.6, 18 and 19.2 Volts drills, but obtained a C 19.2V 5.5" cordless reciprocating saw when getting into the 19.2V cordless system. It had been on the weak side and only fulfilled small, quick cutting needs. There always were power issues dealing with run times and battery storage of my NiMH batteries. I've been holding out and watching the new battery technologies develop, especially the Lithium-Ion systems. Consistent Torques, Long Lasting Shelf Life Power, Quick Charging, High Current Output, Longer Life Cycles and Lower Weight really makes the Li-Ions desirable, for Pros or the Homeowner. I decided to take the plunge and outfit my shop cordless tool selections with this new battery technology.
I researched all of the newest cordless Li-Ion products on the market and found the HITACHI 18V 3.0 Ah HXP tool systems to be unbeatable in most categories. They happen to cost less then most of the other professional brands of great cordless tools. With a prior purchase of a Hitachi 18V 2-piece Drill-Impact combo (has charger and 2-18V 3.0 Ah HXP batteries), I got the bare-tool Hitachi Reciprocating Saw here on Amazon for a Great Value.
I've not been disappointed! You can look up specs and read other reviews, but I can safely say that this Cordless Hitachi Recip Saw is SOLID in performance! The Hitachi CR18DL is a workhorse, with plenty of power that doesn't fade or bog down. It has a very solid feel and works well in my hands without a lot of vibration. It equals the power and stroke of my corded recip., without the cord. With a neat and effective tool-less blade changer, I can swap blades quickly (my corded used an allen driver...always no where to be found). With the 3.0Ah HXP batteries, it last 10X longer than my 19.2V and so far, and has handled every job I've asked of it in a single charge!
NOTE: The "product description from Mnf." claims ALL 18V batteries fit this reciprocating saw. Then the Amazon's "product description" claims All 18V -Post Style Batteries- fit this recip saw...AMAZON is Correct! Only Hitachi 18V POST TYPE (not slide type) Batteries will fit!!
The 3.0Ah Li-Ion "Post-Type" batteries give the Hitachi Reciprocating Saw plenty of run time, allowing me to tackle most of my DIY projects. Plus, Hitachi now offers a LIFETIME Cordless Li-Ion HXP Tool Warranty...Can't beat that!!
Overall, these are the most powerful, well built, quiet and ergonomic cordless tools I have ever come across! The Hitachi 18V 3Ah HXP tool system is Very Close to the Power and Torque of my pro corded tools, but with a Lot More in the way of Convenience (No Cords)! These Hitachi cordless tools are No Slouches and can hold their own against any of the other pro competition. I've also been well pleased with my 18V Drill-Driver, Impact and Circular Saw cordless tools from Hitachi!! All feel great and work as well in my hands as any of the top corded power tools I own. I'll keep my corded recip for long duration work, but this convenient and powerful Li-Ion cordless will get 90% done of what I need a recip for!
